|3.||A GENERAL VIEW OF THE SITE|
This is how Lake Town appeared in the summer of 2000. A settlement had existed on this site for as many as six thousand years (starting from 5400 B.C. until about 1100 A.D., when the First Bulgarian Kingdom was conquered by Byzantium). Presumably, Lake Town was abandoned because of anopheles. For unknown reasons, today there are no mosquitoes on the lake.
And this is how the Island looked some twenty years ago.
